Mike Marshall, who has served this past year as the Chancellor’s Intern, will continue in that role for another year beginning July 1, 2013.

During this past year, Marshall has spent time with each division and enhanced his overall knowledge of the University’s operations. He has served as overseer of the Chancellor’s Scholars Program, working closely with the Chancellor to enhance this program.

In this next year, Marshall will continue his work with the Chancellor’s Scholars Program, and will take on managing government affairs for the University as Vice Chancellor for Government Affairs Larry Lauer transitions to sabbatical in September 2013.

Marshall spent time shadowing Lauer during this year and has been building and cultivating relationships in Washington, D.C. and in Austin. The University considers it important to have a voice and presence at the table in order to help TCU achieve the goal of reaching national prominence, as outlined in the University’s strategic plan.

“Michael is a very talented guy and has been an extremely quick study on all the complicated issues we have been addressing in Austin and Washington,” said  Lauer.  “He has already made several trips with me, and we will be collaborating very closely on all of this through August, when my work in government affairs concludes.  Plus, I will be around campus in my post-retirement roles, and will be happy to counsel with him as he wishes. Michael has a very bright career ahead of him in higher education and I know the Chancellor is providing a myriad of experiences he will need to be successful in the months and years ahead. Michael will do very well representing TCU, I have no doubt about that.”
