TCU art grad to demonstrate portrait drawing Saturday

A demonstration of color portrait drawing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in Moudy Lecture Hall 141N. The presenter is Vilas Tonape, a figurative and non-representational painter who teaches at Polk State College in Winter Haven, Fla. He will apply pastel techniques, emphasizing sighting proportion, blocking planes and rendering color to produce optical mixing. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Tonape is an MFA graduate in painting from TCU, having earned his BFA from Asia's premier art school, the Sir J.J. School of Art at the University of Bombay, India. He calls himself a career artist/educator, maintaining a rigorous studio practice while continuing to exhibit in natioal, international, group and solo shows. He is represented by galleries in Los Angeles and New York and was the featured artist in the April 2009 issue of Pastel magazine.For more information, contact Amanda Allison at a.allison@tcu.edu.
