Local dog park gets some help from TCU athletes
Published: 8/2/2010

Last month, TCU football players Kevin Sharples and Curtis Clay helped renovate the Fort Woof dog park with SLANT 45, a service-learning program that works in conjunction with the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee and Big Thought.

Sharples and Clay joined several volunteers and 12 homeless children living at Fort Worth’s Presbyterian Night Shelter in an effort to raise awareness about neglected and homeless animals. In addition to restoring Fort Woof, the kids also organized a pet food drive benefiting Homeward Bound and other animal rescue organizations. “Those kids just have huge hearts,” Clay said. “To be in an adverse situation and still thinking about helping others is remarkable.”

SLANT 45 is one of the many programs partnered with Big Thought, which focuses on improving public education through creative learning. The Gary Patterson Foundation was among the project’s many supporters.
