Throughout the 2010 fall semester, the Dept. of Sociology and Anthropology will host free weekly lectures on sustainability given by experts in various fields. The series was created by Keith Whitworth, sociology professor and director of TCU’s Purple Bike Program.

 

On Wednesday, Sept. 8, “The Future of the Automobile and What Will Power It,” will be given by Craig Eppling, regional communications manager for General Motors. All lectures are held in Sid Richardson LH 1 from 1 to 1:50 p.m.

 

According to Whitworth, with topics ranging from rainwater harvesting to all-natural meat production, this series aims to comprehensively address the issue of sustainability and its daily life applications and implications.

 

“Sustainability is not relevant simply because it’s a hot topic in today’s culture; it truly offers an opportunity for a positive trend in greener living,” said Whitworth. “Our department is excited to offer this opportunity for TCU and the Fort Worth community to explore and consider ways to apply this concept in their everyday lives – we’ve got a diverse lineup that’s sure to peak the interests of people from varying walks of life.”

 

Topics include architecture, automobiles, rainwater harvesting, sustainable living and self-sufficiency, business, careers, water conservation, recycling, farming, philosophy, gardens, religion, consumer choices, environmental politics, and food.
