FWISD students participate in Math & Science Trail at TCU

TCU’s Math & Science Trail, funded by Chesapeake Energy and hosted by the College of Education’s Andrews Institute of Mathematics & Science Education in collaboration with the Fort Worth Independent School District, will take place today, March 7 and Wednesday, March 9.

“We are delighted to work with the Fort Worth ISD and Chesapeake to provide a memorable experience for these elementary school students to embrace mathematics and science on TCU’s campus,” said Molly Weinburgh, director of the Andrews Institute. “There is a growing need for our youth to embrace these subjects at an early age, and our Elementary Education majors always enjoy participating in making learning fun for them.”

Approximately 120 fourth and fifth graders representing 20 Fort Worth ISD schools will participate in mathematics and science activities each day by visiting different sites on campus that require problem-solving to answer questions unique to each station. Each year, Elementary Education majors prepare a set of questions for each station and work with students participating in the activities. This year, a new focus will be added that will address changes in the petroleum/gas industry.

Fort Worth ISD teachers and mathematics coaches associated with the Math & Science Trail participated in a professional development session this past Saturday.
