TCU's Army ROTC program has been named one of eight Army ROTC units in the nation as winner of the 2011 MacArthur Award. The award recognizes units that have achieved the standards that best represent the ideals of the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation -- duty, honor and country--through excellence in training and performance.

 

The Horned Frog Battalion was selected as best in fifth brigade, which includes all Army ROTC programs in eight states. Selection criteria include outstanding accomplishments in cadet training, retention, commissioning officers and support of the program by its university.

 

The award presentation will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in Winton-Scott Hall, room 115. Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. and Dr. Andrew Schoolmaster, will attend.

 

According to Lt. Col. Christopher Talcott, chair of the Military Science department and TCU's ranking ROTC professor, the support from TCU's administration, leadership from the AddRan College of Liberal Arts and the student body helped make receipt of this award possible.

 

"This prestigious award is an incredible honor and reflects the high standards that the Horned Frog Battalion espouses for leadership development, scholastic achievement, physical fitness and overall program performance," Lt. Col. Talcott said. "Achieving this award is truly a team effort reflective of the hard work, determination and total commitment exhibited daily by our cadets and outstanding cadre and staff."

 

The MacArthur awards have been presented by the U.S. Army Cadet Command and the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation since 1989.
