Dr. Siegel’s address will focus on cultivating well-being and ways to improve the immune system, decrease stress and reduce chronic diseases. His remarks will address cancer survivors, health care providers, students and the community at large.

A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Siegel is professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, where he in on the faculty of the Center for Culture, Brain, and Development and co-director of the Mindful Awareness Research Center. In demand around the world, Dr. Siegel’s ability to make complicated scientific concepts easy to understand has earned him invitations to lecture for the King of Thailand, Pope John Paul II, His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Google University, among others.

In recognition of the 20th anniversary of Komen’s Greater Fort Worth Affiliate, community philanthropists Rozanne Rosenthal and Joan Katz will serve as honorary chairs of the Lynn Lectures at TCU. Rosenthal founded the Fort Worth affiliate in honor of her college roommate and best friend Katz, a three-time survivor of breast cancer. Both Rosenthal and Katz have deep ties to TCU and have been active volunteers with TCU’s Frogs for the Cure events each year.

The establishment of the Lynn Lectures honors the life and spirit of Lynn Tucker Grogan, an ordained minister, who during her battle with breast cancer, promoted the importance of the interrelation between body and mind in the healing process. The Lynn Lectures is a Komen Mindfulness and Integrated Medicine Lecture Series, a national forum to help others become proactive participants in their own healing.

Dr. Siegel’s appearance for the Lynn Lecture is jointly sponsored by TCU’s Frogs for the Cure, the Greater Fort Worth Affiliate for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Texas Christian University, Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Department of Psychology.
