Teatro Flor Candela will perform Los Llevamos Dentro tonight at 7 p.m. in Ed Landreth Auditorium. This performance is sponsored by the Dept. of Spanish and Hispanic Studies.
Teatro Flor Candela was founded in 2006 in Fort Worth as a non-profit artistic organization to provide a series of events to educate all populations about Hispanic and Latin American culture. Under the artistic direction of Maria Patricia Urbina-Frischmann, Teatro Flor Candela has performed at the City of Dallas’ Latino Cultural Center, Dallas Museum of Art and Mayan Theatre in New York. Los Llevamos Dentro will be Teatro Flor Candela’s second performance on TCU’s campus.
Los Llevamos Dentro, translated to “those we carry with us” in English, was originally written by Spanish playwright Eusebio Calonge and has been adapted and performed by independent theaters. The play features 10 circus acts addressing playful, somber and affectionate themes. One of its most famous lines is, “If we do not remember where we came from, we cannot find where to go.”
Donald Frischmann (Spanish and Hispanic Studies), stated, “We desire to broaden our students’ cultural and artistic horizons and to make a significant contribution to the Hispanic cultural/arts scene. Most importantly, the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies, along with co-sponsors Departments of Modern Languages, History and Theatre, believe that this event exemplifies their motto, “opening the doors to the Spanish-speaking countries.” All students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to attend. There will be a partial English translation projected to accommodate those who may not fully understand Spanish.
Admission is free for TCU students, $5 for TCU faculty and staff and $10 for general community members. For additional information about Teatro Flor Candela or the play Los Llevamos Dentro, contact Donald Frischmann at d.frischmann@tcu.edu or visit http://www.teatroflorcandela.com/.
