Upon arriving in Lichfield, Archer and Aimwell set their sights on Kate & Dorinda, the beautiful daughter-in-law and daughter of Lady Bountiful. However, many obstacles arise during their quest including that Aimwell has truly fallen in love, Kate is unhappily married to a drunken squire who hates her, the saucy daughter of the innkeeper has her eyes on Archer, Lady Bountiful believes herself to be a healer of the sick, and a band of highwaymen plan to rob her house that very evening.
