Writer/director Michael Stokes chose the old Rogers Hotel in Waxahachie to make a scary movie, titled The Beacon, which is now having sneak previews around the country. The movie stars Teri Polo (from Meet the Fokkers), David Rees Snell (from The Shield), Elaine Hendrix, recent Emmy Award winner and new Screen Actors Guild president Ken Howard, and genre icon Michael Ironside. The Beacon was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May and won the Best Feature and Best Leading Actress prizes at the 2009 Paranoia Film Festival. But look closely at the scenes depicting a Halloween costume party and you'll see familiar faces.
There's Dr. Enos in his "costume," the same academic regalia he wears for TCU ceremonial occasions. And there's Dr. Frye dressed like a, well, like an actual DOCTOR. Alice Frye is garbed in a 1920s flapper outfit. TCU colleagues have a chance to catch the film at pre-Halloween screenings next week at Studio Movie Grills in the Metroplex. The options:
Monday, Oct. 26, 7:30 pm at the Lewisville Studio Movie Grill
Tuesday, Oct. 27, 7:30 pm, at the Arlington Studio Movie Grill
Wednesday, Oct. 28, 7:30 pm, at the Plano Studio Movie Grill
Thursday, Oct. 29, 7:30 pm, at the Addison Studio Movie Grill
Friday, Oct. 30, 7:30 pm, at the Dallas Studio Movie Grill.
