AddRan College of Liberal Arts will host a “Back to Class” event on Tuesday
evening, April 2, in the BLUU, with a 6 p.m. reception and six faculty
presentations, beginning at 7 p.m.
The event is a fundraiser for the Lt. Cpl. Benjamin Whetstone Schmidt
Professorship in History. Schmidt was a Marine Scout Sniper who planned to
return to TCU after his deployment and become a history professor. Sadly, he
was killed in Afghanistan at the age of 24. Schmidt generously left $200,000 of
his life insurance policy to TCU’s history department. The gift was established
as a memorial scholarship fund. Now, his father and stepmother are working to
supplement Schmidt’s lasting gift by establishing a fund they hope will grow to
become an endowed professorship in history.
