Faculty/Staff Annual Campaign focusing on scholarships

Declining home values, high rates of unemployment and worries about the economy have hit TCU students and their families hard. More are applying for financial aid than ever before. A few facts and figures from this academic year put the problem in perspective:

•    Students with need who applied for financial aid: 2,687
•    Average need per student:  $27,096
•    Average grant/scholarship: $14,641 per student
•    Average gap between need and grant: $12,455

Our students are willing to sacrifice to come here, as evidenced by the debt they assume to earn a TCU degree. High loan burdens affect the types of jobs Horned Frog graduates can pursue. Excessive debt also limits graduates’ options to pursue advanced degrees.

•    Undergraduate students with educational loans: 2,018
•    Average loan per student per year: $10,751
•    Average loan per student over four years: more than $40,000

Financial aid and scholarships have never been more important to the University and our students. Consequently, TCU has launched the $100 million Scholarship Initiative. It’s the University’s highest priority. “Success is imperative if TCU is to remain accessible, affordable and competitive,” says Angela Kaufman, co-chair of the Faculty/Staff Annual Campaign.  “That’s why financial aid and scholarships are also the highest priority of our campaign this year.”

“Of course — as always— the campaign welcomes all faculty and staff annual gifts, whether for scholarships and financial aid, or for research; the library; schools, colleges and programs; athletics; and other needs,” says campaign co-chair Arthur Busbey. “We’re hoping to exceed last year’s record participation rate of 68 percent, which is one of the highest rates in the country for faculty/staff campaigns. “Such a high level of participation is a vote of confidence in the University.  It truly matters more that you give than how much you give.”

This year, the Faculty/Staff Annual Campaign is going virtual. Expect an e-mail message instead of a printed information packet this Thursday, April 1.  Learn more about the campaign and make your gift at   www.annualfund.tcu.edu/facultystaff. Every dollar contributed the Faculty/Staff Annual Campaign helps to ensure that our students will continue to benefit from the exceptional TCU experience.
