Bob Vigeland named Neeley Alumni "Professor of the Year"

Neeley alumni chose Dr. Robert Vigeland, professor of Accounting and co-director of the Master of Accounting Program, as the 2010 Alumni Professor of the Year. As such, he will speak at Neeley alumni events throughout the 2010-11 school year.

“This is a special honor because it was decided by a vote of the alumni,” said Vigeland, who has been teaching for 33 years, 21 of those at Neeley. “It’s always nice to hear a student to say ‘I enjoyed your class,’ but for former students to look back and say, ‘Thank you, you made a difference in my life,' is something special.”

Vigeland teaches financial reporting and analysis, financial statement analysis, contemporary issues in accounting, intermediate financial accounting, and advanced accounting. He enjoys working with bright students who are actively engaged in his courses and interested in the subject matter. “What I like about Neeley is that I have an opportunity to get to know my students,” he said. “I keep in touch with many of my former students, even some from my earliest days at TCU.”

Vigeland has won numerous teaching accolades, including six times selected as Mortar Board Preferred Professor, College of Business Administration Outstanding Teacher in 1978, and the Neeley School Distinguished Teaching Award in 2004. He serves on the board of directors for the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Neeley alumni began the Alumni Professor of the Year award in 2006 to honor outstanding faculty. Previous recipients of the honor include Bill Moncrief,  Rob Rhodes, Chris Barry and Larry Lockwood.
