College of Education will co-sponsor area Spelling Bee March 29 on campus

On Tuesday, March 29, the College of Education will host the North Texas Area Regional Spelling Bee on the TCU campus for the first time. The College is co-sponsoring the event with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram – a longtime sponsor of the event. The winner of the spelling bee will then move on to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

“The College of Education at TCU is nationally recognized for its preparation of reading teachers,” said Dean Mary Patton. “We are delighted to have these remarkable young spellers and their families on the TCU campus.”

According to Patton, the College of Education is one of only six institutions ever to receive the International Reading Association’s Certificate of Distinction, which is the highest honor given by the organization and recognizes outstanding preparation of future reading teachers.

In addition to hosting the bee from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Brown-Lupton University Union ballroom, the College of Education will award the winner a $1,000 scholarship to attend TCU.
