Dance 60th anniversary events include special guests, films

Manhattan-based choreographer and director Doug Varone will present an open master class for dancers in the Metroplex on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 2-4 p.m. in Studio B of the Dance Bldg. The public is invited to observe from the balcony. It will be followed by a public ?Conversations on Dance? session with Varone from 4 to 5 p.m.

The special events are part of a series that will continue through this year while the School of Classical & Contemporary Dance is celebrating its 60th anniversary. It was in 1949 that TCU became the first college in the nation to offer a B.F.A. degree in ballet.

A special dance concert in Ed Landreth Auditorium and memorial retrospective for the late Fernando Schaffenburg (former chair of the department) is scheduled for Nov. 6-8.

The KinoMonda World Film Series has joined the anniversary celebration by scheduling a number of dance movies into their lineup.  Each will be screened at 6:30 p.m. in Sid Richardson Lecture Hall 4.  Make a note:

Nov. 4  Latcho Drom (France 1993)
