TCU and Paschal will be educational “partners”

In a brief ceremony this afternoon, the University and nearby Paschal High School will make official their new educational partnership. The event will be marked with a tree planting at 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Bowie Street and McCart Avenue.

Remarks will be delivered the Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Walter Dansby and TCU Chancellor Victor Boschini, Jr.  and Provost Nowell Donovan. Also attending the ceremony will be newly appointed FWISD Board Trustee Joe R. Martinez and Paschal Principal Terri Mossige.

Both schools have more in common than just the color purple. The educational alliance is highlighted by history, proximity and a shared vision of “learning to change the world.”

Bob Akin, instructor of marketing at TCU, and Jennifer Fuller, strategic initiatives, at PHS, are leading the partnership committee.

“I see this as an opportunity to show Paschal students that there is something different they can consider – another track to take – that will help them make their community better,” said Akin. Fuller said, “The formalization of the partnership only proves to solidify and grow what has already been happening, and opens the doors even wider to reach out to each other.”

Some of the many projects have included a “Bridging the Gap” program (funded by the Andrews Institute of Mathematics and Science Education) with Sarah Fuentes (COE) and Loren Spice (mathematics), both assistant professors at TCU . The Center for Urban Education in the College of Education sponsors an annual three-day writing camp with Paschal. Andrew Brinker, science teacher at PHS, is currently participating in science research with TCU professors and students along with several science team members.  Outside the classroom, PHS’s Student Council and TCU’s Student Government Association are working together, and the TCU School of Classical & Contemporary Dance recently worked with PHS’s newly-formed dance company.
