Fall Convocation includes a panel discussion this year

Fall Convocation, the ceremonial opening of the University's 140th academic year, is scheduled for tomorrow, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. in Ed Landreth Auditorium. Recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Achievement as a Creative Teacher and Scholar and the recipient of the Wassenich Award for Mentoring in the TCU Community will be presented. Classes will be dismissed from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. to allow faculty and students to attend.

There's a change of format for this year's event. Instead of an address by the Chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr., there will be a panel discussion between faculty, staff and students which he will moderate. Panelists include Roseangela Boyd, Phil Hartman, Linda Hughes, Rhonda Keen, Mike Marshall, Sue McClellan, Austin Minor, Vanessa Norris and Greg Stephens.

Nominees for the Chancellor’s Award are John T. Harvey (Economics), Karen M. Steele (English), Paul Witt (Communication Studies), Mary A. Stanford (Accounting), David R. Cross (Psychology), Jesús Castro-Balbi (School of Music), Suzanne Lockwood (Nursing) and Russell W. Dalton (Brite).

Nominees for the Wassenich Award include John Mark Day (Student Development Services), Brad Thompson (Student Activities), Eric Cox (Political Science), Alan Shorter (Theatre) and Christopher Watts (Communication Sciences & Disorders).

Immediately following Convocation, TCU’s annual campuswide Founders’ Celebration will be held on the lawn by The Clark Brothers statue. This will be a time for the entire campus community to come together in an informal setting and celebrate the history of TCU and our founders, Addison and Randolph Clark.
