ESPN female broadcasters to speak here Feb. 26

The Schieffer School of Journalism, in partnership with ESPN, will host six accomplished female sports journalists for a symposium on “The Emerging Role of Women in Sports Journalism”  at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the BLUU ballroom.

Students, staff and faculty are invited on a first-come, first-served basis. Invitations also have been extended to other journalism programs in the region.

The panel will be moderated by Joslyn Dalton, digital media strategy project manager at ESPN and chief of staff to ESPN’s senior vice-president for digital media and print.

Panelists will include Jena Janovy, member of the ESPN editorial board; Jemele Hill, ESPN columnist and contributor; Michele Steele, ESPN anchor and reporter; Jane McManus, football writer for ESPN New York; and Lori Higginbotham, multimedia producer.  The ESPN journalists will also spend two days meeting with TCU’s journalism students and faculty, working with TCU Student Media and interacting with other areas of the university.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to explore how these high-profile journalists chose sports as their primary focus and to demonstrate to our students and others how they have made an impact,” says John Lumpkin, director of the Schieffer School.  “This is very generous of ESPN in its support of journalism education.”
